<UPDATED>
Greetings, dear readers.
You may have been wondering why there seems to have been a break in the flurry of posting I've been doing as of late. If you have, the answer that I'll give is that I've been sequestered in (and out) of my room doing my first podcasts, working out the many technical difficulties with the help of all my computer and other media skills before tackling the problem of figuring out what the hell an "RSS feed" was and how to deal with Apple's finicky formatting of them.
In any case, all this effort has culminated in the birth of my first two podcasts, which are available to download directly as MP3's from this blog entry (below). They are right now just sitting awaiting either your manual download, which means you can listen by clicking on the link, or if you right-click, there should be some object to "download the link to the hard disk" or something similar, in which case you can stick it in your MP3 player and take it with you.
When Apple's podcast registration area stops experiencing "technical difficulties" and they get back on the ball (which I'm sure will be very soon, them being a big company and all) there will be some kind of button you can link to which will take you to your iTunes program, through which you can SUBSCRIBE to my podcast (as well as others) and get regular updates.
<UPDATE>
After wrestling with XML and figuring out a few things that could've been figured out from Step 1 (like most things), I'm now registered on the iTunes site and awaiting approval.
<END UPDATE>
And yes, it's all free!
For those of you wondering what the hell a podcast is, you might want to check out the Wikipedia definition. Technically, my MP3 files linked here are not podcasts until I am registered and syndicated on a service such as Apple's. But that's due to their own technical difficulties, but my podcasts are still ready. So I provide them here for you to either listen to directly or download from the given links to save them to your MP3 device on your own. As soon as I'm subscription-ready, I'll let you all know.
First Podcast: Shinchon and Getting Wireless Internet
This was the first podcast, recorded on location in a Krispy Kreme, which was fraught with some minor technical difficulties and low recording levels at the beginning, but brings you some useful information about Krispy Kreming, getting wireless Internet service, and finding a good movie theater. This 'cast is a bit rough, but it was the first. Cut me a bit of slack on this one, ok?
Second Podcast: Chili's and the "Family Restaurant" Scene
My friend Susan and I break down the "family restaurant" scene in Korea, recording on location in Korea's one and only Chili's restaurant, which we agree is hands-down the best chain-restaurant food you can get in the Land of the Morning Calm and has a bar that will knock you on your ass. Take special note of the "Presidente Margarita." Whoa.
When these are subscription-ready, there will be buttons that will take you right where you need to go. For now, either just listen, or download and save manually.
In any case – the first Korean podcast listed on the iTunes site is actually not even based in Korea (the "Seoul Presbyterian Church" has English-language sermons that are actually podcasted out of Fairfax, VA), mine is the first 'cast I know of originating from a person on the Korean peninsula.
Yeah!
