Here, a fellow black blogger in Korea and I hash out some views on being black or brown (but not blue!) in Korea, all while digesting some good Chinese from Holy Chow! in Itaewon.
It's not comprehensive or necessarily representative, but rather just an attempt to get different point-of-views out there. Most American expats – well, western expats in general – in Korea are white, Asian, what-have-you. Flipped the other way, they're not black. Here's a take on Korea you don't get to here so often, and which is long overdue as a podcast o' mine.
Yes, we're Americans talking about race – our culture's most sensitive topic – but don't freak out – we're just trying to talk about sensitive things in as nuanced manner as possible, while not beating around the bush.
A hard fence to walk, indeed.
