Let me just start by saying that I'm bogged down with work, and this Metropolitician needs all the work he can get (did I just refer to myself in the 3rd person? Kind, but not really). So I can't do the big James Bond night I wanted to plan. But when March rolls around, be sure I will do one for Frank Miller's 300. Holy sheet, dude.
Wow – ancient history on the silver screen. Nothing new. But Frank Miller's the one to tell this near-mythic tale in his telltale, violence-as-beauty, mythical form.
"Spartans – tonight we dine in hell!" I haven't heard a testosterone-boiler like that since Gladiator. Dang.
There's gonna be a bright spot to March, and the cool thing is that there's just enough time to review your Greek history. Battle of Thermopylae, scantily-clad women writhing about, characters getting inflamed with passion and impaled with relish – whew! You can watch this in higher quality (and even HD!) on Apple's Quicktime trailer site.
And here, you can download the Herodotus's Histories in its entirety. Dang!
