Begin rant.
I've been an avid Apple user since really starting to use computers in high school. And I remained one through the dark times of OS 7 and experiments in cloning. I even frequented the Elex Computer centers back when they were reselling Apple stuff.
So I know a thing or two about Apple, and especially Apple Korea.
I'm a certified Apple lover. I believe Macs to be superior. Period. As many of you know, I gushed over the new Mac Pro, which is blazing fast and is the workhorse of all my audiovisual endeavors. I have a sense of humor about the whole thing, and like to tease Windoze users to no end. Yet I'm not fanatical. Well, not that much, anyway.
Yet, Apple Korea doesn't sell the wireless network card for the Mac Pro in Korea.
So, if you're a Mac Pro user, you have to disconnect your entire Airport network and run a wire from the other room along the floor to your computer. My printer was also on that wireless network, which was also available to other colleagues who would come over to work at my studio.
But now, all I got is a wire on the floor.
Apple Korea said on the phone today that a wireless network card is "an optional item" and that I'd "have to purchase it directly from the Apple USA store," as if this were some specialty item like a wireless bluetooth keyboard or wireless mouse that...
Oh! Wait a minute!
That's right! They sell those truly optional items right there in Apple Korea's store!
Hmm. Allowing a pro user to use the "Mac Pro" on an existing all-Apple wireless network...or selling an esoteric device like a wireless bluetooth keyboard?
Obviously, Apple Korea does not really support pro users and is only interested in selling iPods and accessories. That's probably why the Apple Experience Center in Coex has closed and there are now two Apple counters there now, one in the Linko office supplies store, and the other in the Evian record store there.
No one carries pro-level programs anymore, it seems. I don't even know where I'd get a copy of Final Cut Pro if I had to buy one.
Apple Korea – if you're gonna stop supporting your pro users, then just stop selling the pro equipment, please.
Next, I guess you'll stop selling Apple monitors because they don't sell well? Well, if you do that, you really need to stop selling Mac Pros. Geez. Wireless is now an "option" in super-wired South Korea. Who knew?
Apple Korea is getting stoopid. This is not the way to treat your small-but-loyal pro user base. I'm sure I'm not the first person to complain about such a stupid policy of not even allowing this product to be special ordered through Apple Korea, as if I was wanting to get a special, iPod-powered, fuzzy vibrator with oak handles.
This is a basic part that allows the Mac Pro to be put on a network.
Apple Korea – HELLO!? Anyone home?
Geez.
Rant over.
