Boycotts and political action only works in solidarity. Read this post on Japan Probe and make your choice. And a boycott can only be effective if you make your voices heard.
I'll add to the effort by making it easier for Korean-based people to contact Family Mart's representatives here. I didn't see any Korean contact info being offered on the site, so here's what I found.
서울시 강남구 삼성동 141-32
보관빌딩 (주)보광훼미리마트
Bogwang Building
Bogwang Family Mart, Inc.
Kangnam-gu, Samseong-dong 141-32
Seoul, Korea

Give them a call to see if they support racist literature against foreigners in Japan. Here's an example, taken from the website mentioned above:
Oi Nigger!! Get your fuckin’ hands off that Japanese lady’s ass!! [Actual scan from the book, and it clearly says “nigger” in katakana.]
Here's the receipt Japundit gave showing the book was actually purchased in a Family Mart store:
And in other activist news, I will be going down to KBS next week to formally inform them of the online petition we did here, which has now seemed to have really come to an end. I'm pretty sure they already know about it, but just for closure's sake. I think our voice has been heard, but this is just to make it official.
And just an update to the post about the hagwon that used racist baiting as a marketing tool here recently, their site is in "nice" mode again, as it was for a while before when they took down their racist diatribe about foreigners after getting some heat, after which they put it back up. I, for one, am going to politely remind them on the phone, in Korean, that we haven't forgotten. Their phone number's at the bottom of their page.
I believe that bullshit perpetrated against any group of people is only enabled by the people in the group who simply grin and bear it, as well as those not in the group who chose to ignore it. Whether or not you boycott Family Mart, at least make your voices heard. A bunch of angry foreigners calling them up all of a sudden is going to send ripples. It will have an effect.
For all the bitching and moaning that we foreigners do here, how about making some of it socially useful, right?
