Saw Hancock last night, along with a few other folks, courtesy of the owner of the DVD store to which I've given half my income. A few free tickets ain't a bad gesture, I think.
How was it? Well, let's just say I enjoyed watching it, but because the premise is actually pretty good. I saw the first trailer when it looked like a simple genre spoof and wasn't interested; when I saw the second and the possibility of a real story arc and a plot with some development, I got pretty eager.
And I enjoyed the movie. I really enjoyed certain scenes even more. Yet, I couldn't help feel that it could have been so much better. And I agree with this insightful little review that the main problem was that it was several movies rolled into one, and without enough explication even for the single movie it was trying to be.
That being said, I'd say the movie's worth a watch. It has heart, since I'd be really feeling a scene -- one in particular -- and just when it started to have me, when someone was saying something that needed to be said in just the right way and it really could have been an emotional anchor for the movie, the scene abrubtly ended. I was like, "Huh?!"
I know I can't talk more about anything specific, lest I really have to post this with a spoiler alert. Just catch the flick if you can, bring popcorn, and kick back. Great, it wasn't, but the strange thing is that I felt it coulda been.
