Wow -- it's about time that speakers started speaking with backbone again. And this man's absolutely right and the perfect person to address the point that the "He's a Muslim" is just code for "he's black." All these are flimsy excuses that a few people want to believe because it's no longer polite to just out and say "I don't want to vote for him because he's black." Well done, and I'm glad this is being addressed by those who will be most effective at addressing it.
I just have to say that no movie I've seen in recent years has so hilariously both navigated and accurately charted the cultural landscape of 2008 America as Harold and Kumar Go to Guantanamo Bay, which I recently watched on bootleg, since of course it would never be premiered here in Korea.
This was all a "ponzi scheme" that he knew about...but he still opposed deregulation? Err...what? Or he just didn't know about it, and was just as clueless as the rest of us, then.
In case you missed it:
Erm...how you gonna say you were X on multiple occasions, then say you weren't, and were always opposed to it -- in fact, WARNED us about the dangers of X? Doesn't McCain know about the Internet? YouTube? About...
Oh, that's right. He doesn't. My bad.
Doh!
Oh, it keeps coming. Compare Obama's talking about a "regulatory framework" while John McCain was still talking about how the fundamentals of the economy were strong and characterizing fretting over it as a bunch of whiny handwringing.
Wait -- when people at the Republican convention and in that party are talking "Drill, baby, drill!" even as every scientist and policy adviser worth their salt is talking about the certainty of global warming and the fact that our dependency on foreign oil is NOT going to be solved by increased drilling, and more fear-mongering over 9/11, and then actually get PWNED by the fact -- RIGHT IN AMERICA'S FACE -- that irresponsible Republican policies over the last 8 years that McCain has made a core part of his POLITICAL IDENTITY have obviously helped lead to the financial-train wreck-in-slow-motion that the US is presently experiencing...
Some Republican is going to characterize my support of the Democrats and Obama as "drinking the Kool-Aid?" The Republicans have a candidate lying through his teeth, a VP pick who lies about her foreign policy experience multiple times and thinks that being closer to Russia gives her said foreign policy experience, and then doesn't even know what the Bush Doctrine IS in an interview -- these are the people who are qualified to lead the country?
Who's drinking the Kool-Aid here? What would it TAKE for certain died-in-the-wool Republicans to abandon McCain and their party? Seriously, I think if he were caught on tape snorting coke off the breastplates of underage Hollywood hookers, Republicans would view it as a sign that McCain still "had his youth and vigor."
"If the world gives you lemons, make lemonade," right?
And then go on about Obama's not wearing some tie pin, flashing 9/11 footage on our screens again, or talking about him being Muslim.
Tell it like it is, SNL. I think the electorate is finally feeling the effects of his dirty pool. Just straight lying! McCain the "straight talker" wants to go out like this? The biggest irony is that I had nothing in particular against the man except for I didn't share his view of politics or policy. But the level he's stooping to is just enraging. I wonder how many people think like me if even Karl Rove is calling foul on him?
These aren't the only conservative folks who are afraid that McCain is just plain "un-presidential." I've always respected George Will, because he's a man driven by a core set of conservative values, and isn't just some party wonk or "drill, baby, drill" idiot, who Republicans should be concerned gives them a bad name. You should watch the video over on that link.
Are people finally starting to figure it out? That behind Palin's empty smack talking, there's not much under the Republican hood this time around? And are the important people -- independents and undecideds -- finally figuring Palin out, too?
Things are starting to tip back in our direction, I think, after a brief loss of momentum.
What Obama has to do right now is actively kick it into high gear, with a solid push forward. I'm waiting for the debate with bated breath.
Yeah -- the Repugs even pulled out new sequences of footage for our benefit, and just keep LYING.
And yes, I've already pointed out in my response to an ill-informed comment, that 9/11 and the 1979 Iran hostage crisis had anything to do with one another, whether specifically or in the general historical sense.
Before you say this site is "anti-Korean" or bashing Korea – read this: "Why Be Critical?" Chances are, if you're simply angry because I am a social critic in Korea but not actually Korean, see if your argument isn't just a kneejerk response that follows these patterns.
Session 1: Just the Basics
Dealing with the basic operations and functions of your DSLR, explaining each function, button, and doo-hickey. The bulk of the session is likely going to stick around the relationship between aperture and shutter, as well as depth-of-field. Basically everything on your camera has something to do with this relationship.
Session 2: Composition and Shooting (Shooting Session 1)
We'll take those examples and look at them on the big screen, while also answering the concrete questions that will pop up about the stuff we learned before. Then we'll talk about composition and other framing issues, including lens lengths and why some lenses are worth $100 bucks and some are worth $10,000.
Session 3: Flashes and Advanced Exposure (Shooting Session 2)
Dealing with flash, in terms of compensating above and below exposure levels (bracketing), as well as other bracketing techniques in general.
Session 4: Final Session/Critiques
Keeping it open, determined by the class.
Four 3-hour sessions, as well as shooting sessions, photo discussions, and critiques. An individual photo essay will also be done as part of the ongoing class assignments. Inquire at the email address at the top right of this page.
As for my photo book (now in limbo due to editorial differences with the publisher), you can see the representative chapters from the "Seoul Essays" posts below. Note that Chapter 3 remains undone and in limbo on my computer:
